Every year, we see an influx of color trends that everyone from Oprah to your favorite blogger swoons over. So, with 2021 quickly approaching (who knows where summer even went), I wanted to craft a list of color trends that we will be seeing in the new year. Some are inspired by Sherwin-Williams annual predictions, but some are simply my expert take on what’s to come.

With everything that has happened in 2020, I expect 2021 will fight to outshine the past. This means more color, bright accents, and a movement away from stark-white spaces and onto bringing forth walls that are inspiring - especially since most of us are working from home.

Next-Gen Neutrals

Beige, white and soft gray will always have a space in my heart, but it is time for color to step up to the spotlight. And yes, there is a thing called the new neutral (and it is anything but boring). Instead of a single shade that lacks dimension, new neutrals are soft colors that are inspired by nature. Think forest greens, deep raspberry, and yes - there are some toupees in there too if you cannot let go of that trend yet. Also, do not be afraid to mix your neutrals to add dimension and uniqueness to the space.

Muted Hues

I for one love this new trend that we’ll be seeing more in 2021. More color, but not something that screams “look at me” or something you need sunglasses to look at. Instead, muted hues bring warmth through color to your space to brighten, calm, and everything in between. Sherwin-Williams says its muted color palette for 2021 is inspired by artisans and culture, which you can certainly see portrayed in the images below.

Release your Inner Child

Who says adults need to be boring? In 2021, you deserve a year of fun, excitement and creativity flowing through your walls. It is time to bring out the bright and bold jewel-tone colors, but don’t just stick to the walls - think about other items in your home as well that can use a new coat of fun bright paint, such as cabinets, doors, maybe even the ceiling.

Now that you have a glimpse into what trends will be hitting the walls in 2021, it is never too early to get a head start on making these changes a reality. Get in touch with me for a color consultation so we can see which of these beautiful and inspiring trends work best for your space.
